AI product description generator: from spec sheet to listing in minutes
By the ChatGBot Team · Published November 2, 2026
To use AI as a product description generator, paste the product's real specs, say who buys it and why, name the sales channel, and ask for a draft in your brand voice. The quality of what you paste decides the quality of what you get, so start with facts rather than a product name alone.

Try ChatGBot →The basic workflow
- Collect the facts. Materials, sizes, what is included, care instructions, and the one question customers always ask.
- Name the buyer and the moment. "Commuters who hate leaks" gives AI far more to work with than "everyone".
- Pick the format. Store page, marketplace bullets, or a short ad line.
- Generate, compare, verify. Check each claim against your spec sheet, then publish.
Three prompts for different selling situations
A single page for your own store
Prompt: Write a product description for [product name]. Specs: [paste specs]. Buyer: [who buys it and the problem they have]. Brand voice: [describe it, or paste a sample]. Format: one opening sentence about the benefit, a short paragraph, then 4 bullets. Use only the specs provided and do not invent certifications, test results or numbers. Work in the phrase [search phrase] once, naturally.
Marketplace listings
Prompt: Turn these specs into a marketplace listing for [marketplace]: [paste specs]. Write a title under [character limit] characters and 5 bullets. Start each bullet with the benefit, then the feature that proves it. No promotional words such as "best" or "number one".
A whole catalog at once
Prompt: Here is my product list: [paste rows with name, material, size, color]. Write a 40-word description for each one. Keep a shared voice, but make every opening different so no two pages repeat. Return a table with the columns Name and Description.
Example: a plain spec turned into copy
Input: 20 oz stainless steel bottle, double wall, screw lid, fits most car cup holders, hand wash only.
Output:
Built for the desk, the bag and the drive in between. This 20 oz double-wall steel bottle has a simple screw lid and a slim body that fits most car cup holders.
- Double-wall steel: two layers of stainless steel in one slim body.
- Screw lid: easy to open and close, with no clips to lose.
- Everyday size: 20 oz, slim enough for most cup holders.
- Care: hand wash only.
Look at what it left out: no hours of cold and no "leakproof guarantee", because the input did not say so. AI likes to add exactly those claims when you do not forbid them.
How to get more useful drafts
- Paste a description you love. Ask AI to match its rhythm, not its words.
- Ask for objections. "What would stop someone buying this?" often gives you your best bullet.
- Generate variations for testing. A benefit-led and a story-led version let you see what your customers respond to. Our notes on AI for marketing and AI for SEO go deeper.
What you still need to check yourself
You are responsible for what your listing says. Check measurements, materials and compatibility line by line. Be careful with health, safety, eco and "clinically proven" style claims, which may need evidence or have legal rules in your market. Marketplaces also have their own listing policies, and those change, so read the current ones. And avoid pasting the same supplier text across dozens of pages.

Trying it in ChatGBot
ChatGBot is a paid general chat, so you prompt, review and paste the result in yourself. One subscription gives you GPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Qwen and GLM in a single chat, so you can run the same prompt on two models and keep the stronger listing. PDF chat lets you work from a supplier's spec sheet instead of retyping it, and image generation helps with quick concept visuals. Use real product photos for what you actually sell.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI write product descriptions that sell?
It can write solid drafts quickly, particularly when you give it real specs and buyer details. Results still depend on your product, price and photos, so test versions and keep what works.
Will AI product descriptions hurt my SEO?
Google's concern is usefulness, not whether AI helped. Accurate, specific descriptions that differ from page to page are a sensible goal, while mass-produced copies of supplier text are not.
What should I give AI to get a good description?
Specs, the target buyer, the sales channel, your brand voice and a few customer reviews. The more real detail you share, the less the AI has to guess.
Can AI write descriptions for many products at once?
Yes. Paste a list of products and ask for a table, working in small batches so you can review each row. Large catalogs may be better served by a dedicated bulk tool.
Is it allowed to use AI descriptions on marketplaces?
Check the current rules of the marketplace you sell on. Whatever tool wrote it, you are responsible for the listing being accurate and following policy.
